Back in the 70s, I worked at a department store when Gloria Vanderbilt jeans were popular. I worked in women’s apparel. Ladies sizes, 0-18 were one price, women’s plus sizes were $5 more. When asked why they were more, I blurted out, without thinking, “They cost more because they have to use more material.” The woman just looked at me and walked away. I was middle to late teens at the time and really didn’t know what to say.
