In retail, especially food, this is the problem when you pay with a credit card for a small purchase. I work in a bulk food store and almost half our customers spend less than 50 cents per visit, and you would be shocked by how many people want to pay with a credit card. The retailer pays a fee per transaction plus a certain percentage of the sale to the credit card company in case anyone wasn’t aware of how it works for the retailer.
If there’s no discount for cash there’s no reason not to use the more convenient credit card. All it means is that the merchant has adjusted the prices for everyone to cover his credit card expenses.
I use a credit card because it’s faster to pay with my phone and I never have to deal with coins.
