    Actually, given the number and length of commercial breaks in so-called free tv, they could have a full on skirmish during the break, then sit comfortably and watch the next 2 minutes of programming.

    NFL calls timeouts in games for the purpose of inserting commercials into broadcasts. I don’t know because I don’t watch it but I’ve heard it said that if soccer did that, the fan base is such so ardent about the game that much of the world would go up in flames.

    If it was not for TV and the commercials, sport figures would not be making the huge salaries and colleges and universities would only admit students who earned the right to be on their sport teams by having good grades in high school.

    The year I was lucky enough to go to the Rose Bowl, there came a time when there was no time out, but nothing was happening on the field. It was a commercial break.
