Had George Orwell lived then, he couldā€™ve written a book about the Kingdom of Id called 984.

Why do I get the feeling Iā€™ve just volunteered?

Iā€™m reminded of how that jerk Sen. Harry Reid tried to explain that Americans pay their income taxes voluntarily. How stupid does he think we are?!

Although I volunteered, I served in the draftee Army, and on average it wasnā€™t nearly as competent as our volunteer Army which all Americans should be proud of. No free country needs to enslave its citizens to defend itself. The all-volunteer Army is one of the great advances of freedom in my lifetime, up there with the fall of the Soviet Union.

    (984! Good one, J.R.!)

Iā€™ve been wondering what the thought process must have been like for those that ā€œvolunteeredā€ to fight for our independence from England? Maybe something like: ~~Itā€™s time to be willing to die for something rather than just living for nothingā€¦

Or is this the way weā€™re starting to feel again?

More like ā€œvoluntoldā€, quite common in government offices in Canadaā€¦

Iā€™m reminded of advice my AF recruiter gave me. ā€œWhen the TI (Training Instructor) asks for volunteers to step forward, everyone step BACK. The one fool still standing in place just ā€˜volunteeredā€™.ā€ PRICELESS advice I still follow all these (30) years later. <:-)
