Aah, that’s the thing about living in cold climates: you’ve really knocked yourself out shoveling the driveway, walkway, and the sidewalk; but all you get for your efforts is the DUBIOUS honor of starting ALL OVER AGAIN! And again, etc.
hey wizard i think the king should hire people to follow behind the plows and shovel out the end of the driveways.just think ID would create jobs thus lowering unemployment and during the less cold months they could use these people to clean up cigarette butts/litter from parks and public places.hmm maybe the king could have people do that for their subsidy checks and thus NOT raise taxes – no that last part won’t work for the king.
Something similar almost happened to a friend of mine. Got done hand-shoveling out his 100-, 150-foot driveway when he saw the snow truck approaching. He lives in a rural area where the snow truck is actually a snorkel and is preceded by a pilot vehicle. When he saw the pilot vehicle, he turned over the shovel in his hands and started swinging it like a batter waiting for a pitch. He saw the pilot pick up a microphone; then he saw the snow truck stop and move its snorkel from the side of the road to in front of the truck. Snow truck driver waved as he passed; then, after reaching the end of my friend’s property, he stopped again, swung the snorkel back to the side of the road, and continued on his way.
Also remember that in medieval times (when Wizard of Id and Hagar the Horrible theoretically take place), boys did not get to choose their own wives (or girls their own husbands). Back then, you had to marry whomever your family had chosen for you (often for money or prestige); whether you liked that person or not! Moreover, couples had to basically stay together or starve (regardless of their true feelings). Boy, talk about a no-win situation for a great many people!
