That was one of the most popular games when I was in 4th grade. People who didn’t want to play, didn’t. No game should be compulsory.____________________________________________When I was in elementary school in the 1970s, our choices were play or fail (unless you had a note from a parent or doctor). The bullies (I was a favorite target from 3rd grade straight up to graduation) would purposely hit me as hard as they could with the ball, “oops” and “apologize”. The teachers couldn’t prove that it was done maliciously, so they got away with it. Every. Single. Time. It was also one of the most popular games in my school, but for the above reason.
