The reality is that in the medieval time period, Kings and other important nobles, had many castles to live in. They moved from one to another. Leaving the last castle’s staff to clean-up and resupply a place that had been pretty much used up. Thus the move to the next castle/palace, and the next one after that. It sort of became a cyclical loop. It might have taken a year or more to do. But in that way the King, or whomever, generally got to see, and be seen by the whole Kingdom. And take care of problems that where in each area, (no Instagram or live-TV coverage back then). They had to go see it for themselves and take command of each situation. And any valuables that they had, had to be portable for all that moving around.
