About 70 years ago, my Grandmother bought a big batch of baby chicks and gave one to my Mum to raise. Mum named him Joey and he became her shadow, followed her everywhere. She loved her little pet. One day Mum & Dad went into the city for supplies and when they came home found “Joey” plucked, cooked and on the kitchen table in a canning jar. We moved 500 miles away shortly after that.
