Who knew that candy manufacturers were at work even back then?!?

The same chocolates are cheaper the next day, and we all know how women like getting cheap presents from their main squeeze. Back in the days of pull tabs on beer cans we could make chic necklaces out of them!

Chocolate did not make its way to Europe until the early 1500s and not until the early 1600s did it leave Spain and not until 1815 with the introduction of the Dutch Process did really take off (The dutch process was basically adding alkali salts and pressing out about 1/2 the fat to drastically reduce the bitterness) So she must be a time traveler.

I could never get you a box of chocolates my fair maiden. First reason they haven’t been invented yet. Second reason the sugars would mar your beauty by giving you acne. I shall instead give you this lovely bunch of flowers set off with these bits of greenery with three leaves,

Actually what would have been the traditional gift for Valentine’s in the middle ages? Its midwinter so there aren’t any flowers, chocolates didn’t exist,, so boiled candies? bottle of what ever the local vintners and brew masters made?

Rodney, a box of chocolate is all she is expecting.
