So I’m trying to figure out how old Ed is. Say he got his first cell phone in year 2k, a really snazzy flip phone model. That would put him at just under 50 years old (16 × 3 = 48). He looks pretty good for 50. If he got his first phone 5 years before that, he should be retiring any day now. (I would imagine in comic strip years he would be around 100 years old.)

No truer words were ever said, Ed.

But how much of what you did in the first two thirds did you turn over to the phone in exchange for time contraction, or whatever?

My cellphone is voice only. If I want to go online, I do it at home on my desktop computer, or occasionally at the library on one of their terminals.

Just wait until Jay finds out that Apple is doing away with earphone jacks. (Not that Jay’s phone is necessarily an iPhone—I just had to say that!)

these people who walk around with their phones glued to their ears and they never seem to know what is going on around them

If push came to shove, I’ll bet I could live without my smartphone… but I’m not eager to see if I’m right.
