Not quite as crazy as that, but I remember using a first generation Palm Pilot to read e-mail from the bathroom. Sync it from the computer via its dock. Then go to the bathroom and read/reply mail from the Palm. Then go back to the computer later and sync it again to let it transmit the replies.
The idea got really boring really fast. I don’t think I bothered after the first week.

Every time I see books or magazines in someone’s bathroom I think, get in, get out, don’t linger. There are better places to read.
