It could lead to a career in Archaeology. I have no idea what that pays but one would know so much more of humanity’s story. Maybe I was just born more curious than most.
I know a many people with PhDs ….teaching…. what ever floats your boat. Many degrees are worthless in the fact that they can’t find jobs in their fields and end up working at a lower paying job….college is t for everyone….the TRADES are suffering a shortage…electricians, plumbers, carpenters, brick layers, mechanics, heating and cooling………..ya know, all the necessary areas in life when everyone needs their expertise, one time or another…
I’ve always suggested that if you can’t get work in a field you really want to do stuff in, get work in a field that you find entertaining enough to do and will give you the time and money to do what you really enjoy as a hobby. Several of my doctor colleagues are in bands, for instance, but their bands will never pay for their livelihood.
Of course, we always need a few PhDs in fields to teach it and get research funding.
I once told someone that a degree in Liberal Arts qualified you to ask “Would you like fries with that order?”She seemed miffed when she told me that was her degree. She was really miffed when I said “Then you know what I mean.”
Before Gov. Reagan made ignorance a virtue, if you made the grades, you could go from kindergarten to PhD on public tuition. They had more Nobel laureates than any other system. Not so much since then. During WW-I, an archeologist named T. E. Lawrence was quite helpful in driving the Turks out of Palestine.
I doubt any doctoral disciplines are that narrowly defined. It’s more likely to be in anthropology, and Mesopotamian culture was his dissertation’s focus.

Yeah, who needs all this “knowledge” and “understanding” and “education”? What has that ever gotten us?

Or he can write, do research, teach, or anything else with his life that he actually LIKES to do.
Seems a lot more interesting than being a banker.
