What ticks me off about this whole arc is that it doesn’t exist. A few colleges are experimenting with an OLD language system from the 1800s (because they were thinking about gender-neutral pronouns back then). It is not being forced on them, either – it is being encouraged as an experiment. I don’t know why Deering insists on taking every social experiment and putting it into a public elementary school as some forced PC abomination. Granted, the colleges DID start the trend toward using Ms. rather than Miss, and it did eventually become accepted practice, so messing with language could indeed be dangerous.

until the first tuition bill comes due. or, until a measles outbreak occurs. or, until you read the rules and regulations and it is thicker than a war and peace with some crazy rules(no epi pens, no inhalers, and prayer solves everything). or, some fringe belief system that says the earth is 6000 years old and dress code.

Haven’t I seen this arc on this strip before? Are we honoring Yogi with the deja vu all over again?

How about Carl homeschooling Zack? That could make an interesting story line.

And, as presented, Ze & Zir are NOT Gender Neutral..Zack is misreporting the lesson.

I hate to say this, but these arcs where the writers trash public schools are my least favorite. Plenty of people complain about what is being taught in schools, but a lot of parents I know have abdicated their responsibilities about teaching about sex, ethics, manners, hygiene, personal relations, and most other basics of life and then yell bloody murder when what the schools do what have to do to keep the kids fairly decent and clean does not exactly match what they would have taught if they’d done their jobs as parents.

And, BTW — this use of language is a social experiment that is not ongoing in public schools, but occuring via a couple of universities…
