When I went into the academy, in 1969, my instructors taught that there are 3 types of people in this world; wolves who will kill and steal and do harm to others, sheep upon whom the wolves prey, and sheepdogs who protect the flock from the wolves. Agreed some of us go rogue and need to be put down, but most of us stand our watch over the sheep and do our best to keep them safe.

The few bad apples defense falls apart when you check the statistics of blacks stopped by police while driving or walking because they look “suspicious” and are then questioned/frisked or their cars are searched. Back when NYC had stop and frisk 90% of the people stopped were POC. So there has to be a lot more cops doing this than a few bad apples.

Police are also unable to deal with people in mental distress. A $10 orderly in a nursing home/state hospital is expected to control disruptive patients without violence and often are terminated if they strike a patient while police often resort to violence up to shooting.

Thought police, another name to downplay people who fight the refusal of some to give other people the same place in the sun.

Anything for a punch line, I guess. I just typed that very phrase and got a whole list of suggestions for “defend the police…”. Shirt, sign, bumper sticker, movement, rally, meaning, etc. etc. Defund the police wasn’t one of them.

No thought police here, it’s just your paranoid imagination.
