Zen Pencils by Gavin Aung Than for April 24, 2023
Transcript:
'Kindness' covers all of my political beliefs. no need to spell them out. I believe that if, at the end, according to our abilities... we have done something to make others a little happier and something to make ourselves a little happier, this is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances, we must try. I didn't always know this... and am happy I lived long enough to find it out. -Roger Ebert

This may be the best Zen Pencils I’ve ever seen. Thank you for making my Monday a little bit more … sane.

This reminded me of a great movie with essentially the same theme: ‘Cinema Paradiso’.

My screen must be defective. It’s blurry.
Roger Ebert was a nice gentleman with a delightful wife. His death was prolonged and awful. He handled it with grace. I hope I can do a tenth as well as he did.

I never allow myself to get emotional at what I read or watch in movies or TV. It is contrived to affect you. It is a rule I have had most of my life. But then…there are exceptions to every rule, and this is one of them. This emotionless girl cried reading this “comic”.

This was lovely, and such a great quote from one of my favorite cinema personalities!! Any chance the story of the strip is based on actual events??
