Well illustrated, sir. Mr. Fry is exactly right.

One preacher I know didn’t do well in counseling. He told his people to “just forgive”.

It is now Sir Stephen Fry. Fry was not made a part of a particular order, so he is a “knight bachelor.” Because he has no other post-nominals for heraldry (like the MBE, OBE, or CBE), he will be styled simply “Sir Stephen Fry.” Sometimes the post-nominal “Kt” is used when one does not have a lower rank.

For example, Paul McCartney is a knight bachelor (as is Ringo Starr). He is styled “Sir Paul McCartney, CH, MBE” because he received an MBE in 1964 with the rest of the Beatles and has since been included in the Order of the Companions of Honor (CH). (I am wondering if Sir Paul will be granted a peerage some day, as was Andrew Lloyd Webber.)
