A friend of mine who speaks fluent French went to a french restaurant and was greeted a waiter with a French accent. She asked him in English what part of France was he from. So he said a little village just outside of Lyons. He went on to say how he grew up there and how much he loved and missed the place so thinking she would be making him feel more at home she began speaking to him in French. He hadn’t a clue what she was saying. It was all an act. He couldn’t speak french at all and had never even been to to the country.

Don’t ask the French waiters in Montreal, their French isn’t real either. Cajun is a challenge too, who calls a city Red Stick (or Moose Jaw or Medicine Hat or Place of Many Fish (or Dirty Bum if you spell it wrong))?
