Katy: Where's dad? Laura: Out back putting down some mulch. Katy: Mulch. Laura: What weird word... Mulch. Katy: Sounds like something that'd be growing in dad's gym bag. Laura: No. That would be dust.
A cop caught a man taking guano from a bird sanctuary. When asked what he had there, the man replied “sanctuary mulch”, so the cop said “You’re welcome.”
(Bil Keane did this joke in a non-Family-Circus strip he had in the 1950’s. It’s one of only two Bil Keane jokes I really enjoyed.)
