Laura: It's not that big a deal, Adam. So you're in a sling for a couple weeks. That'll fly by. Why'd it have to be my coffee-sipping arm? It has the grip...the angle...the control. This is the worst thing that's ever happened. Laura: I know, dear. They'll write songs about it one day.

Being so totally left-handed that I have often joked “I only have a right hand so I’ll have something to hang onto when I say my prayers”, I can sympathize with Adam.

There’s been a few times when I’ve had to put a brace on my right wrist when I’ve strained it, and it wasn’t easy to write, eat, or even type since I’m right-handed.

I broke my right elbow a year and a half ago trying to skate on my daughter’s birthday. For someone who was born left-handed (I’m ambidextrous now), I had a really hard time.

My grandmother used to laugh at me for being very ambidextrous. That is, until she fell and broke her right shoulder and had to eat left handed for several weeks. She was in her 80s at the time so it wasn’t easy for her. She never laughed at me again (at least for that).

Adam, if this is the worst thing that has ever happened to you, count yourself blessed, blessed indeed, ya’ big baby!

I remember reading somewhere (so long ago I can’t remember where or the exact way it was put) that it is a good exercise to train your off hand to do things. That it stretches your mind or something. As a result, I have worked hard on learning to use my off hand for as many things as possible.

Adam, you should see folks who have no arms or legs, or use thereof, and see how they make do…
