I’m thinking “chasing the dragon” is a little much. More like chasing a donkey. (Isn’t that what Juan Valdez uses to bring the mountain grown coffee down to the village for the Hills brothers?)
I started at six. At home we used instant Necafe`, but had brewed at my grandparents. Dad’s folks used a Pyrex stove-top percolator, with 8-o’Clock Coffee. Mom’s used a stainless electric percolator with Maxwell House.
My parents would drink at least 2 pots of coffee before even thinking about starting their day. :They started me on coffee , mainly milk and some sugar with a little coffee when i was 5 or 6. I’ve been drinking it black since I was about 10. Most coffee shop coffee I find extremely weak and undrinkable compared to what I’m used to drinking at home.

I was 8 and I dunked chocolate chip cookies in coffee until there was little left but a sugary sludge in the bottom, then I drank the sludge
Blame my mom and grandma, coffee and cookies were an afternoon visit ritual

She will know the dragon is chasing her when she walks to the shop for coffee before showering in the morning.

Ah the joy and $ of being a Supertaster. We need no willpower at all to avoid coffee, alcohol, and tobacco.

I spend thirty dollars a month on decaffeinated espresso. Can you be addicted to something that reminds you of caffeine? :)

Coffee must taste better today. When I tried it fishing as a kid it tasted like hot mud.
