I would tell him “The registers are closed and you would be unable to purchase what you are looking for. Please head up front before Security has to escort you.”
Years and years ago, I was working on Thanksgiving in a grocery store. We closed at 4, but people were coming in at 4:30 still. We had crazy lines at all the registers. The front end manager got on the intercom and said “Attention customers. We would like to close the store so our employees can go home and have Thanksgiving with their family”. I was in shock he said that, but was cheering on in my head. He got in big trouble from the higher ups the next day.
One Christmas Eve, at a Pet store I was working at, the manager was getting ready to lock the door for closing. Two big guys starting to try to run in. He told them sorry, but we were closed. One guy yelled “What am I supposed to tell my little girl when she doesn’t have a goldfish for Christmas!?” . They threatened to beat up my manager! He had to call back up. Got to love some customers.
I used to work at a warehouse store and we had been closed for a while. There was one couple still roaming the store. We made multiple announcements and they just ignored it. I finally got permission from my manager to go personally inform them we were closed. I was pissed but tried to be polite. I go up to them and let them know we closed over 30 minutes ago and we would appreciate it if they went up front to check out. They were both deaf. The could not hear the announcements. I felt like such a douche. They did leave shortly after that.

Turning the lights off usually helps them head toward the door.
