This situation happened at the school I worked at. After covid, they began hiring aides for more than the aides already working there were making. There was a mild revolt and the admin gave everybody a raise.
I often wondered how that affected people who are hired at one minimum wage salary, and got raises over time… and the new hourly rate is raised to the amounts they got as “raises”… would that wipe out the “raises” they got for good work?… or do they get a raise as well?
They raised minimum starting teacher salary in Arkansas a couple of years back. So my salary was raised to match and now after 24 years, I make the same as a first year teacher.
Years ago, I had a nephew working at the same restaurant as I, and he made a certain wage. They went thru a time of hiring newbies, with a higher wage, and my nephew found out. So, he asked for a raise, was denied, and he quit. I don’t blame him a bit. Companies need to take care of the people thay have.
When minimum wage was increased my dad’s company would look at the difference between the old minimum wage and the new one, and increase every worker’s wages by that much. One of the few things he did that I really admired him for doing.

He’ll never pass the written drug test. He did too much LDS back in college.

I credit my career success with changing jobs every few years. I never got a raise during a job anywhere near what I could land in a new company.
