Agnes doesn’t yet understand how very much she has been given: love, food, clothing, shelter, protection from war and roving bands of outlaws, immunizations from many killer diseases, clean air and water, free public education with long-suffering teachers and principal, public library access, television, internet, freedom of worship and a bunch of other freedoms, unlimited opportunities for the future and — of course — a very tolerant friend, Trout.
