Ugh! Trout, just drag Agnes up the ladder and toss her off the board! Done! (Oops! Tossed her too hard; she landed on the pavement!)

The skyline changed. It was all modern and nice, and then reality set in.

    There’s a minor problem — the height.

My parents signed me up for swimming lessons at age 8. I’m far from athletic or coordinated, and I just wasn’t getting it. The last day we were required to jump off the high dive, I couldn’t do it, the instructor came up and threw me off. He then had to jump in and pull me out, since still couldn’t swim. I’ve been afraid of water ever since.

I’ll never forget Fleishacker pool in SF. Jumping into a salt water pool was like hitting a concrete wall. Forget about diving in.

That’s only 6 kinds of coercion. Try flattery, although it is somewhat like encouragement. :)

Sometimes we need to be mercilessly nagged to overcome our fears.
