I took BooNoodle walking through the neighborhood as far as he could go, lifted him in the air so he could see over the privacy fence in the back yard, and split a pack of smoked salmon with him under a tree out front. And let him have all the Science Diet kitten food he wanted even though he should have been on special kidney food. All his favorite things when he started looking like a worn out teddy bear and needed help grooming. Love him forever.
I’m sorry, Amanda. We’ve lost four pets, two of them cats. We had to put both cats to sleep and one of the dogs. The other dog passed away on her own just before we were going to take her for euthanizing. I could also count the two hamsters that a friend and I adopted. I felt like they were mine even though they lived with him. One was euthanized, and one died. I have a Facebook page called “A Pet’s Plea.” Under the description of the page is the poem titled “A Dog’s Plea” but really it can apply to any pet. In my July 8, 2010, is a poem the vet gave us with the clay paw print they gave us and then the October 21, 2017 post has another poem we got with our cat’s paw print. Feel free to post names and pictures of your furry angels on the page.
We had Smoke for another month after her diagnosis. There really wasn’t anything they could do — removing the tumor would have meant removing most of her lower jaw, and the vet was certain it had already spread anyway. Plus, she was 15 years old, and I just couldn’t put her through that kind of surgery. We spoiled her rotten until she was ready to go — we knew it was time when she wasn’t interested in the chicken we had roasted for dinner. Even a saucer of gravy just for her didn’t spark interest. She was my best buddy for years. I still miss her.
We lost our Boris — the Boo — to lymphoma. We went through the whole chemo regimen, and then 2 weeks after he was declared cancer-free, he had a mass big enough it was moving his heart and lungs out of the way. We couldn’t put him through the chemo again, so we got a couple more months with him with prednisone. He told us when it was time. We still have a Boo-shaped hole in our hearts, 2 years later. Hang in there. It might not get easier, but it does get less immediate.

I know what you’re going through. We just lost Ms Opal. She was 16 and, if you took the trouble to ask her, she was the greatest cat in the world.

I remember losing all my pets since I was ten. Still painful!

I lost my calico princess, Manon, to Squamous Cell Carcinoma. When she stopped purring, we knew it was time. Damned horrible disease….

Thank you, folks! You guys are so sweet. (We lost her four years ago – the timeline is a little behind – but we miss her so much still.)
