Okay, I guess I’m resident geezer for all the kiddies.
1. That’s an audio tape cassette.
2. They sometimes spewed their tapey guts out like that.
3. So you would stick a pencil in one of the round holes like the one just below and to the right of the “A” on the cassette and slowly, carefully reel the tape back in.
I recall when cassettes were cutting-edge, and my high school library’s collection still included stuff on reels and they’d let us sign out reel-to-reel machines to play them. Geez, those things were heavy!

Some of my video cassettes are still playable. However, the video quality is not good.
