The Germans have a lot of good drinking songs. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if some of them were written by Handel or other famous composers. When the composers were between patrons, they still had to put food on the table. And writing “popular” music would be one way to make some money. Other ways included school teaching and being a musician. But being a top composer back then, working under the patronage of some noble or royalty, paid well and one could live somewhat like today’s “music stars”.

Handel’s Water Music was written for the King’s morning micturations.

And there isn’t one called “Handel’s Canal Music.”

Certainly beer was available. Maybe the sound of guzzling didn’t enthuse Handel.

umm, first 2 panels in color, last panel in B&W, so did the colorist screw up or did the cartoonist do it that way on purpose?

Oh well there’s always Guitar Bob.
tad1 about 4 years ago
If Andy wants songs about beer, he should listen to country music.

Or Jackie could book this group instead of Guitar Bob. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZDUN179dpwo
