@Linguist Today’s strip IS funny, Flo is being sarcastic to our HERO Mr Andrew Capp whose only interests are alcohol related and would not recognize culture if it him you know where:o) my avatar is a photo of my eldest son Arthur’s pure bred Husky pup named Zeus that he bought for his daughter princess Amy and he eats as much as a horse ,comment avez vous passe votre jour mon moins vieux ami, our day is confusing because my better half Connie has been admitted yesterday morning for diagnostic intestinal procedures today , I miss her badly in our married life there were only four times when I was left alone twice when she had our sons Arthur and Alex and,last year for the same reason as today, hope they find everything OK , we are fetching her home this afternoon , a bientot pal

Certainly beer was available. Maybe the sound of guzzling didn’t enthuse Handel.

The Germans have a lot of good drinking songs. Wouldn’t surprise me a bit if some of them were written by Handel or other famous composers. When the composers were between patrons, they still had to put food on the table. And writing “popular” music would be one way to make some money. Other ways included school teaching and being a musician. But being a top composer back then, working under the patronage of some noble or royalty, paid well and one could live somewhat like today’s “music stars”.
