From Not Always Right: Stops Them From Being Chess Bored

(When I was in college, my friend and I would play chess between periods. One day, we are both in the administration office, which is crowded, and we know that we will most likely be waiting for hours so we decide to play chess.)

Me: “It’s good I brought the chessboard. It looks like we’ll be here all day.”

Random Guy #1: “You guys have chess?! Can I play when you’re done?”

Friend: “Uhh… okay.”

Random Guy #2: “I want to play him, is that okay?”

Me: “Sure.”

Random Girl: pointing to her friends “Can we play after those guys?”

Me: “Okay.”

(We ended up letting 30 people use our chessboard. 2 years later, I walked back into the admissions office and saw a bookshelf full of chess sets. I asked about it and it turned out that chess in the waiting area had become so popular that the school decided to supply their own boards.)

It’s only fair when everyone is cheating.

Andy only knows checkers, but not all that well..

Who’s been cheating.

Was watching an episode of “Mission Impossible” the other night that involved a chess match. It had Rollin Hand, played by Martin Landau,, cheating at the game with a computer in another room. The computer was big, several units, and gave out answers on a paper card. TV computers sure have shrunk in the last five decades. Now they could probably put a chess app. on a ‘smart watch’.

Looks like full contact version of chess.

So much culture it’s flying out the window.

He pulled a fifth ace in a chess game, or may have slipped on a 2nd King

Who’s the cheat? Andy or his opponent?

The last time there was culture in The Rose & Crown was when someone brought in a container of yogurt!

Checkmate!

However, in the U.K. “Cheque, mate?” might have a different connotation in a restaurant or pub.

Perhaps Jack is thinking by bringing some culture to the place, Andy will go elsewhere.

Gee Officer, I wonder what your first clue was.

I think Chutes and Ladders is more Andy’s speed…..

Where ever Andy travels he leaves a mess…

Andy can’t play blacks or whites – he’s always in a grey area!

No offence to anybody who loves chess but I can’t think of anything more boring. The chess pieces are rather pretty though.

Somehow, I can’t imagine Andy playing chess. Doesn’t seem to fit his character.
