Don’t really need modern communication devices. A late friend of mine told me once how if he jumped in mud puddles on his way home from school, his mother would know about before he got home because neighbors knew each other in those days and someone would have called his mother on an old-fashioned land line and reported his behavior. On the plus side, that’s why I was never afraid to walk around my own neighborhood at night. I knew all the neighbors would be watching out for me.
