Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for May 02, 2013
Transcript:
Arlo: It isn't as if we never see movies! We see lots of them! Arlo: There's cable! There's streaming! There's DVD! Arlo: Besides, go to a theater and everyone's fiddling with a smartphone! Janis: But you don't remember going to a movie since 1997! Arlo: It's coming back to me!

I went to a Roy Zimmerman concert in Pennsylvania and there was an elderly woman in the front row who got a call on her cellphone in the middle of a song. This was a small, intimate space, with a crowd probably fewer that 100 people. After a moment or two, she was shouting into the phone: “YOU’RE GOING TO HAVE TO SPEAK LOUDER. I’M AT A CONCERT AND THERE IS A LOT OF NOISE!”

I quit going to movies years ago because other people can’t behave.

If you can stomach going to week-day matinees, the crowds are better behaved, and fewer.

We can’t go during the week and I don’t want to go on weekends because I can’t stand sitting right next to a stranger.

Arlo is right, With gigantic TV screens, and home surround sound, you no longer need to go out to get a movie experience. You can even get 3D technology now.

VUDU is great! For $3.99, I get a first run movie. I put my ‘jamies on, grab a glass of Cabernet Savignion, turn on the surround sound, fluff up the pillows, cuddle with the wife on the couch and I don’t have to leave the house to take it back and I get for 24 hours and I don’t have to put up with other peoples crap! What a great concept!

Years ago when I went to see the Matrix, a cell phone rang and the guy answered, then started talking in a loud voice. From the deeps of the theater, a deep base voice said: “Hang up or I make a wish!” The guy said: gotta go dear…..we went back to seeing Neo choose which pill he wanted.

I used to work at a movie theater and I lost count the number of times I would be inspecting the movies currently playing and would have to ask someone to not use their phone during the movie, not sit in the aisles, keep their kids under control, and/or not smoke the water vapor cigs since Utah Law says that you can’t smoke inside buildings. Period.
Of course, if they refused to listen to me, then I would call on the managers and have them deal with the jerks, and on several occasions, I would see them get escorted out of the building itself by security.

ANYONE who would try to upstage Jean Luc should be hit with Phaser set on 9.

It’s not the same, Arlo. Movie theater is still the way to go.

Loud is good. At least at the movie theatre I don’t have to lower the sound. My neighbour complains if the television is loud enough for my poor deaf ears to hear. (Yes, I am planning to get a hearing aid!)

All music is noise to those who don’t like it, and music to those who do. You can turn off what you don’t like, but let others enjoy what they like without the invective.
