Arlo and Janis by Jimmy Johnson for May 24, 2013
Transcript:
Arlo: This graduation invitation is tacky! It looks like a postcard! Janis: Well, things change, including etiquette! Arlo: There used to be an old comic strip called "Etta Kett"! Arlo: It was about a pretty girl and her family! Janis: Living with Arlo must be a lot like living with the weather in Seattle!

There is no pleasing Arlo. I did my son’s invitations myself using a photo of him and printed them on photo paper.

Etta Kett was still around in the 1960’s.

I guess she should know if anyone does.

In Seattle, if you can see Mt. Rainier it means it’s going to rain. If you can’t see Mt. Rainier it means it IS raining.

my grandson graduated last year and his invitation/announcement was a postcard made by his mom from a program on the computer. The more formal ones that are available from the school are VERY expensive and 99% of people throw them away anyway so why spend all that money. With the postcard type I had several more recent photos of him and a nice collage to frame. Would rather have that than the formal stuff.

Based on what led to her thought, she seems to think the weather changes greatly and rapidly in Seattle.

Seattleites love the jokes and the common perceptions — it just means we have the Emerald City to ourselves.

Funny, here in Seattle we say the weather is like Arlo’s train of thought.

Etta Kett ran from 1925 to 1974, a couple of months after the death of the creator, Paul Robinson.

One thing about the weather in Mississippi….if you don’t like it ….wait around a few minutes….

The weather in mid-east Wisconsin is like that now. It hit 80 last week, then rainy, windy, and in the 40’s – 50’s this week. It’s been like that on and off the past month.

My brain works like this, it contects odd things, usually a trun of phrase to song lyrics.

It has been said, we have two seasons in Detroit. Winter and construction.

I thought Seattle had fairly consistent weather. But maybe to Janis his going off topic is a constant.

You’ll like him a whole lot more once you see how claw hammer stupid most folks are.

I take offense to that (not really). I’m from a town 30 miles from Seattle and it’s a lot like Missouri. If you don’t like the weather, wait IT WILL CHANGE (Just like what Obama said; only he didn’t indicate it would be a change for the better).

I once saw a t-shirt (on a person in a Baltimore-area shopping mall, oddly enough) with a sketch of the Seattle skyline and the caption “Seattle Rain Festival January 1-December 31.”
