This is what you get when you don’t instill a good goldbrick ethic in your children.

But in her 20s she may decide that she’s missed out and then take off, without any outside experience.

Sounds to me like she has no friends. She used to, but they are never seen.

I guess my daughters are normal then, they avoid work whenever they can.

Rebellion in children consists of defying parental expectations. Thus, a child who’s encouraged to be a free spirit may rebel by going to Harvard Business School and becoming a Reagan Republican. Call it the Alex Keaton Factor.

My father was proud of how he’d managed to instil a love of work in me and had me doing various things around the property with great gusto. (oddly, I was about Meg’s age. It was a LONG time ago!).

He then bitched for years about the neighbour coming along and making fun of it, and me, for working so hard. Dad damn near hit him. Sadly, my father hadn’t instilled a resistance to being made fun of by strangers. His conditioning broke. Looking back, I kind of regret that.

comicsssfanBut “rebellious and strange” can be a good thing too. The trick is to channel it and move on; particularly move on.

It’s good to see Gus. I think Mary Lou and Gene should visit, too. Maybe we’ll find out what happened to the boat. (Gene and Mary Lou’s Love Boat from several years ago, the one that Arlo supposedly bought.)
