Sounds like a good operation to me!

Cartoonists aren’t the best at dreaming up successful business models.

Small, family run, attention to food. Beats the mass produced, mass served junk that is on daily offer.

So it’s in the old gas station. Does that mean that the cost of the meal is Grand Prix Fixe?

Gotta expect the food and safety inspector to shut them down? Illegal to sell home-cooking to the public in most states (without a kitchen inspection, which no home kitchen could pass)

Mom’s home cooking. Good food; take it or leave it.

So you can still go to the old station and get gas.

There is a successful small, family-owned restaurant located very close to the large Air Force base in my town. They are only open for lunch, Monday thru Friday, and serve soup, salad, sandwiches and dessert. Occasionally, they run out of one of the two soups, but the rest of the kitchen is open. The place has been in business for nearly 20 years.

There are all kinds of small, local businesses and craftsmen/craftswomen we should be supporting. It is the only way I know to send the message that cheap, poorly made junk sold by the big box stores is not acceptable.

I ate at a small-town place like this once. The one employee had to attend to her child every now and then. It felt like I was intruding into someone’s home.

Reminds me of a highway sign by an old station in rural Iowa many years ago that read “EAT AND GET GAS”.

My kind of restaurant. And cat fish? At least once a week.

Modest, but serviceable.

I’ve eaten at a couple little roadside stands like that. Nothing wrong with the business model at all, Tyge, as long as retiring at 40 is not your plan.

one of the best Italian restaurant I was ever at. Two little old ladies made all the food from scratch. opened for dinner and sold what they had. When it was gone restaurant closed. Wanted spaghetti and all they had was linguini left, you get that or nothing… (they made the noodles also) It was awesome.

I just had a lunch at a family owned restaurant outside Sorrento, Italy. Delicious!
