Arlo is making a point about the proper use of commas, and how it can change the meaning of things.

“No the one from High School”

“So, you remember her, then?”

“No.”

Maybe it’s too early in the morning, but I can’t see how Arlo’s version is any clearer than Janis’s.

Arlo doesn’t remember at all, but he does know how to make Janis think he’s a good listener. As DHG observed, “Well played, Arlo”

Of course Arlo doesn’t remember her telling him any of that. He is just repeating back what she said so she will feel like he heard her.

Paraphrasing…it’s used a lot in therapy.

Arlo played it well! And that is why I do not do social media. Who gives a crap about somebody they do not know & what they did? That is the impression that Arlo gave to me, but decided not to fight it with Janis. He obviously thinks that it is a big waste if time & totally irrelevant to their lives. But he made the right decision! Go Arlo!

Yep, she mistakenly thinks he’s listening.
