AWKWARD!!

Our area’s #1 Realtor sez: “Open houses attract 3 groups; neighbors, crooks & a few potential buyers!”.

We never had an open house (except for realtors) when we sold. It only attracts “Looky-Lous” (I’m guilty of this myself). REAL potential buyers nowadays look on line at your photos and description and then make an appointment. (Footnote: always have professional photos done. SO worth it). We sold our house in one month….got our asking price.

I am reminded of the scene in “Chinatown” in which Polanski says to Nicholson, “You know what happens to nosy fellows?”

Open houses are just that— open to everyone. You never know when a neighbor might have a relative or friend who wants to move to the neighborhood. She could always say she’s hoping to find a house for Gene!

Is the house what she is curious about???

in Canada the ‘open house’ is run by the real estate agent and the owner is far away keeping out of his hair. No agent knows who ‘walks’ by the house.

Guilty as charged. I’ve done that.

Well, the sign did say “OPEN!”

I’ve done this, but it’s always a realtor, not the actual owner. I introduce myself as “The Nosy Neighbor who has always admired this beautiful home” and am welcomed right in.

Was she adopted by the Penny family?

I love open houses. They often give me good updating ideas, and what’s wrong with that?

We’re always doing a first look for our cousins who live in Denver.

As a Realtor, we expect all the neighbors to stop by and look. We get additional homes in the neighborhood to sell that way.

If you don’t want this to happen, don’t have an open house.

Next to showing up at the luncheon after a funeral for somebody you don’t know, this is the second worst way to get a free meal.
