I've realized that I buy bananas just to watch them die a slow death in my kitchen.

I put mine in the freezer and save them for banana bread and cake

On a serious note, I have found that if I wrap them tightly in plastic and put them in the coldest part of the fridge, they stay good a lot longer.
I put the peels outside in my planter beds to draw fruit flies — the lizards appreciate my efforts.
Try this to extend life of bananas: To save for later and before they get too ripe, wrap bananas in newspaper, put in brown paper bag. Place in fridge. They will keep much longer even if the skins get brownish. FYI
