Because the Earth's rotation on its axis causes this part of the planet to tilt away from the sun slightly for this period of time during its revolution around the sun. Can I wear a bathing suit today? No! It's cold outside! Oh. Why is it cold outside? Sigh!
When Zoe asks “Why?” turn the question around. Ask her “Do you REALLY want to know why or are you just asking to hear yourself talk?” I suspect it’s often the latter.
