Mister Google and Ms. Wiki tell me the Droste effect refers to a recursive picture-within-a-picture. It gets its name from the label on a tin of a Dutch brand of cocoa which showed a nun/nurse carrying a tray with a cup of cocoa and the very same tin on which she appears.
I learned a new term today for a phenomenon I always thought was cool. As a child, I used to hold a mirror up to a mirror and wish I could follow the tunnel into infinity.
Isn’t Droste also the company that sells orange-flavored chocolate inside a box with open sides holding a foil-wrapped sphere that comes apart into chocolate molded as orange segments?
It was a dark and stormy night, and everybody was sitting around the campfire. And the captain said, “Tony, get up and tell us a story.” So Tony got up and said: “It was a dark and stormy night…”

Back in the day, we always called it an ‘infinity picture.’ Big fan.

in my experience, kids these days aren’t very good at recursive writing…

I feel like she would know the name for the effect, and now I know too.

Gracie, It is funnier than a blow to the head or the crotch.

I know that Gracie is incredibly smart, but it really bugs me when she is smarter than any of the adults I know, including me.

But there are three of them, one in each panel. Dare I say, this is a triple Droste? Droste treble? Trifecta de Droste? Droste Effect Hat Trick?
