I know what it means. It means most people care. If they hear someone’s doing great, that’s great! But if they hear someone’s not doing great, then they want to know more, because on a primal level they want to know if there’s something they can do about it, even if that’s just leaving an expression of sympathy.
During Covid husband’s younger niece was having trouble with her math homework. Since his sister (niece’s mom) and brother-in-law are idiots, niece was contacting husband online for help with her homework, and as the math person of the two of us, when he wasn’t sure he would ask me for the correct solution so he could help her.
