Big kids, little kids, kids who climb on rocks. Fat kids, skinny kids, even kids with chicken pox…

Don’t forget the part about beating up the nerds in the hallways, sexually harassing the girls in the library (or anywhere else we could be cornered), etc. The physical assaults on the school grounds, the shouted obscene and/or racist epithets, the slut-shaming BS stories. And the TAs abusing the “smart kids” when they were supposed to be helping us. And the administration, who handwaved every incident away, because my abusers were already experts at solemnly swearing that they hadn’t done anything, and why should anyone believe me?

I doubt that they ever grew out of it — they probably went on to become petty tyrants at work and abusers at home — and the damage they did has been with me all my life.

No, Cynthia, do NOT enjoy it. Grandpa, stop enabling her.

We just had fist fights every day after school if someone was picking on you. That was before kids were armed with guns and knives.

Yes, it’s a phase but that doesn’t take away the hurt. It’s made worse today though, with, and I use the term very loosely “Social” medias which are anything but. What was once a childhood phenomenon is now a lifetime hazard perpetuated by those same bullies and vermin of peoples’ youth……

Say what you will about Barney; he doesn’t seem to be a bully. Maybe he grew out of it too, or maybe he never was.

Believe me, bullying today, especially on line goes waaaay beyond what it was. (Speaking as a retired teacher and parent/grandparent.) And it doesn’t just stop with the kids now. Too many adults never outgrew it.
