I can’t decide which movie has the greater opening scene: 2001: A Space Odyssey or Bye Bye Birdie.

Definitely appears Grandpa has all of his mental faculties this particular day.

I watched the ones with Shelley Fabares a few times, maybe just because they were the ones shown most often on local TV, and liked them well enough for what they were. Puppet on a String from Girl Happy is actually my favorite Elvis song. I never had the chance to see much of Ann-Margret, except in Joseph Andrews, but I suppose I ought to be looking on YouTube for more!

Yes, Ann-Margret was very talented and very attractive.

He is right though. In all of his movies, I do not think he played anyone but Elvis and that not very well. His characters always succeeded and never had any character growth.

I’ve hardly seen any Elvis movies, but I read once that he was actually quite good in “Love Me Tender” (his first film, which wasn’t supposed to be "an Elvis movie’; he had fourth billing). His screen tests were also apparently well regarded. The fact that he never got to do any “serious” acting or get any challenging roles is often blamed on Col. Tom Parker, who didn’t want Elvis to do anything un-Elvislike…

There are a few that I like and my recently deceased wife used to tease me about watching them. Now I am sad when they are on thinking about that. :(

Elvis was so cool they let him be in movies and he couldn’t act.
