Technically (and originally), “politically correct” meant saying whatever is politically expedient – whatever will get you elected. Most cartoonists seem to think it means clamping down on the ability to speak your mind. Most commonly, however, it is understood to mean we don’t make fun of people for their race, gender, culture, physical attributes, intelligence, mental health, or sexual identity. That’s what really gets people mad – we like putting people down.
