I have been an admirer of Ayn Rand and a student of her philosophy for over 50 years, and for a layman I am well versed in Darwinian theory, and I must say that I have no idea what this cartoon means.
Ayn Rand was the ultimate objectivist. She allowed no middle -ground. Self-interest was the primary motivating factor. Others had to adapt to that or be ignored. The mantra of the 1%.
Ayn Rand was against government confiscation and coercion; which is how the Progressives operate. You can’t give away to the needy without stealing from those who earned more. And of course you can’t set up your middle man organizations to skim off that revenue flow if you can’t take their stuff by force via laws enacted without their consent. That’s one of the reasons why Obamacare was such an abomination, the majority of Americans didn’t want it, the Democrat controlled government pushed it through, and the corrupt Chief Justice blessed it.
Ayn Rand believed in people taking care of themselves. Many of her elite characters gave generously to charity. She just objected to being forced by the government to do so and to having your hard earned assets stolen by others who refuse to do anything for themselves. Coming from Russia, she saw the perils of socialism and it left its mark. I’m not a fan of hers but she did have a point regarding this.

He might work for the government. People are starving and dying. Lets send them a bunch of tractors and plows so they can grow food next year.

She was possibly the worst writer of fiction who actually sold any books – Atlas Shrugged was an embarrassment to the literary community.
