Not very sharp

Thousands of years later…

Looks like he has an axe to grind.

New sign… “Petrified Tree”.

If at first you don’t succeed, deflect with a sign.

The bark was tougher then he thought.

If you can’t beat ‘em join ’em. If you can’t cut ’em down, build ’em up …

… (or “bill” them as a historical landmark).

Not the sharpest tool from the shed.

Another few hundred years, and it’ll grow back.

So, how did he attach that sign?

As the saying goes, looks like the dogwood’s bark is tougher than the [axe’s] bite!

That tree must be an iron tree. They really are hard, when healthy, but are susceptible to a disease that’ll rot them out. They remind me of the story line in the original War of the Worlds.

Looks like he left his mark in life.

Instead of hack maybe chop?

Hitting a nail into a tree is a heck of a lot easier than chopping one down. Even with a chainsaw can be hard if wood is wet.

There’s a coincidence: I briefly watched the movie “Immortals” yesterday and saw Henry Cavill’s character chopping at piece of fallen wood with even less success than we see in today’s strip.

Sign could have read that one day washington will sleep here.

At least tourists have a place to visit now…

ever notice how many small towns and cities have “Historic Downtown”s these days?

Shouldn’t it be a Treemark instead of a Landmark?
