This cartoon already looks old! Do you still get all your delivery from the mailman? To your doorstep? From my experience you’d rather get twelve different random guys in private cars looking for “Olida Ralvey” on a sunday morning or series of “missed delivery due to customer absent” when you spent the last five days waiting behind your window, when you don’t find a soaking parcel after a week behind the woodshed… Is it different in Canada?
I think Dan got his point across. Regardless of the delivery method, more shopping is done on line. As evidenced by the closure of many of the brick and mortar stores. On the other, it sure makes black Fridays more tolerable.
I hate Christmas shopping and used to refuse to shop after Halloween (except groceries). What presents were not bought by October 31, did not get bought. With the internet, I do all my shopping online. I have most gifts shipped directly to the recipient since all of our family (both sides) live at least 10 hours from us. Saves time, money and aggravation.
We buy gifts for husband’s 2 nieces (9 and 17) and I send checks to my niblings (niece and nephew) who are 30 and 27. If husband sees something small he wants he buys it and gives to me to wrap. I get nothing. Done!
We won’t order anything unless there is absolutely no other way to get the item and we NEED it. Deliveries are always a problem here. No matter who is delivering it – they just leave it in front of the house – not even at the house – but within arm’s reach of the sidewalk ( house is maybe 12 feet from sidewalk). Delivery people generally do not even bother to ring the bell – even if the item requires a signature. And we have a bus stop across the street.
Lately we have been getting a lot of deliveries. For some reason all the delivery services drop packages for our neighbors on our driveway, we have even had delivery men walk over to us when we are outside and try to hand us packages as they say it is for us and it is for neighbors from as far away as the other end of the street.
We have had my husband’s temperature sensitive insulin – we were told by insurance he had to get it by mail and it would be sent by next day Fed Ex and could not be left without a signature – left on the front steps in 90F+ heat without even a ring of a bell and that was after it sat 2 days in the mail order pharmacy and was sent 2 day UPS! We got an exemption to pick up locally.
My dad’s mailman started calling him “Mr. Amazon” after my father discovered that he could do his own Christmas shopping online. My dad felt horrible when he found out that the reason his mailman was gone for a while, several years ago, was that he had hernia surgery. The mailman said that a LOT of people on his route had the same reaction when they found out.
