My Aunt lived in Florence, Italy in the 70’s. She said back then protesters would throw a handful of flour at fellow citizens. It got their attention but was easily dusted off, no harm done.
I don’t know how old our bag of flour is. It is in a plastic container not the original bag – definitely over 5 years old – maybe 10 or more. I stopped baking when we both were diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.
