It is not the needs that get you so much as the “While we’re at it”s.

The new dresser requires a new bed…

There goes the air conditioner.

Don’t forget new paint, or if you’re really sadistic, new wallpaper.

Just so you know, the end tables are NEVER the end!

Don’t know about these folks, but isn’t a bedroom for sleeping – with the lights off?

They’re not at Pier One, folks. They’re on Pier Three, home of the foil on wood chips dresser.

When he wanted to buy himself a nice jacket, she said no. When she wants to buy something, it turns into an expensive list and there’s no one that can tell her “No”. I assume they both work; maybe he should be able to buy things that make him happy with some of his money and she can use hers for things like this.
