Craig at least make it sound believable

And I’d thought Nate was a bit of a creepy weirdo.

So seeing the Strike theme, this means that at the very least, we’re sticking to this Craig section of the arc through tomorrow. Whether or not Nate just leaves him to go to Daphne on Thursday, or we have to wait for Saturday or even Monday is another question.

And I guess I don’t mind? I am liking this arc and I don’t think Craig should just be swatted aside, it makes for a good shadow self of Nate commentary, if it’s acknowledged, maybe this gets Nate to be protective of Daphne? Idk, but it HAS potential.

Unfortunately, I don’t find this joke as funny as yesterday’s. Like, it’s not bad (Craig is so pathetic, geez), and Nate calling him out is kinda fresh since usually he’s the butt of the joke, but I don’t really find this one funny. Maybe because he’s such a creepy jerk?

6/10, I still kinda like it so a decent score, but this is borderline 5. Need a stronger punchline tomorrow.

I do want to use today’s strip to also talk about the elephant in the room: Will Nate and Daphne be another bait by Peirce.

When I say bait, I mean that there is a very, VERY specific pattern Peirce uses for Nate girlfriend arcs. So specific it’s actually kinda weird, and it’s a big reason why lots of people here have their doubts on this arc (and I don’t blame them).

Excluding Ruby Dinsmore from Blasts Off, there have been 3 major girlfriends in Nate’s life who HAVE dated him (hence why I’m not mentioning Jenny or Gina or Lila or Etc.): Angie, Kelly, Trudy.

Each met him in the summer (July, specifically), each one is the object of Nate’s affections from pretty much the first moment he looks at them, and after about a month, they get together with him and kiss him one way or another (except for Trudy, which took 3 months until he got with her).

After that, a period of 5-6 months pass where Nate and the girl get to be happy (Angie got 6 until February, Kelly too, and Trudy got 5 months until March). Then the inevitable breakup.

This means that with flirting prelude included, 7-8 months is the time for a girlfriend arc, before it ends.

Daisy is its own kettle of fish, but she too lasted a month before a decision was made (the decision being no).

The evidence for Daphne working out IS there (Peirce has said that it’s unlikely to find your true love at such a young age, BUT he has also said that there’s always the possibility when he introduces a girl that maybe this is the one, read Epic Big Nate and you’ll see what I mean), and there are a few intriguing differences:

1. Nate didn’t fall for her the moment he saw her. Not to diss the other arcs, but it’s not just the looks.2. Daphne is way different than the others. Angie was just a nice girl, Kelly was kinda tough and moody, and Trudy was, well, sort of shallow. Daphne is a shy, nerdy, awkward girl. The opposite of any typical Nate love interest.3. I have a theory that pierce might start having Nate grow up. Now, I know this is the least likely thing that could happen ever, but bignatefan1 said that based on the way it happened, this could be a “true love arc.” Now they also said that in big Nate epic, (which I have) he says it’s not very likely to find true love at this age. SO, this leads me to believe that he might start having them grow up so that they can be really in over and it not be weird because they are underaged.

Craig is not a very good lier, also this might just be me but his face in panel 3 makes me angry for some reason idk why lol. I find it funny how the 1st strip in this arc was Gina asking why people don’t like her, and now we’re here. We haven’t even seen Gina in the last 2 weeks, this arc has been everywhere lol
