I’ve witnessed this conversation, almost exactly. The sad thing is that it was between two ADULTS! Two of our neighbors in our apartment building were having this, “I’m through talking to you” back and forth, neither of them wanting to relinquish their “last word” position. My husband tried to get them to stop by telling them, “Just walk away already!” I repeat: this was between two ADULTS, in their 30s or 40s!
What’s the most interesting is that when Elizabeth starts yelling at Richard in public, this actually manages to get Elly out of the house and running in concern. Elly’s parenting priorities from this week appear to be oriented towards public appearance. She is concerned about the toys in the front yard. She is concerned about Elizabeth yelling outside. Concern about her daughter being bullied seems to be nonexistent.
