I read a book once, of suggestions on how to get rid of telemarketers. One suggestion was to ask them for their number and tell them âIâll give you a call back during your dinner time.â
Couldnât wait to try it out.
So, this telemarketer phones, I say the lineâŠshe starts rattling off her phone number!!
I said: âLady, donât you get it? I DONâT WANT TO TALK TO YOU!â
Caller ID means that I almost never pick up with a telemarketer. If it is a legitimate call from an unknown caller, theyâll leave a message.
If I do pick one up by mistake, I just hang up without saying anything once I realize what kind of call it is. These days itâs probably not even a live person. More likely a recording when you first pick up, and youâd have to stay on the line to speak with someone.
My grandmother will talk to them in German or Serbian. They usually hang up pretty quickly. Her greeting on her answering machine is also in German and that is a good deterrent for telemarketers too.
My wife is more cruel. She will spend a lot of time making friendly, idle chit chat. A telemarketerâs time is valuable.. They need to make so many calls in fixed amount of time. To have a call last a long time without making a sale can be dangerous to them keeping the job.

Great use of the name to intimidate the caller. Problem is he/she probably wonât understand it because itâs in English without an accent.

âGâ as in Greg is dangerously insane, but also a true hero to the people.
